Five Teardrops

I heard a child cry today,
A sound so full of pain.
one so innocent,
Should not know shuch tears.

I saw a child frown today,
For she found no happiness in anything,
No toy could make her smile.
A child should not be so complicated.

I felt a child bleed today,
The warmth of red running down her arm,
No band-aide or kiss could make it better,
Someone so young should not have such wounds.

I smelled a child’s fear today,
As the sweat ran down her body
In drenching waves of heat,
How does a baby know such fear ?

I tasted a child’s tears today,
For they are my own
Running down my cheeks, they are constant reminders
That that child still hurts.
